  • >I may soon be getting a PadmaShri!!

    >

The revered PadmaShri awards which have a lot of social value attached in India are enticed by everyone. Every year on republic day, the government comes out with a list of people who would be awarded the coveted awards – padma shri, padma Bhusan and Padma Vibhusan; not to mention the coveted Bharat Ratna. The awards committee looks at individuals world over, and circles down the people who have impacted the most to the nation in different fields like arts, culture, economy, literature, etc.

In such circumstances this news comes as a big joke.

Khan was nominated for the Padma Shri under the art, culture and literature category. Then it was corrected to the craftsmen category, but when the hunt for Khan started after his nomination, it was found that no craftsman by that name existed in Jammu and Kashmir.

If this kind of laxity happens with such a prestigious award, I don’t see any reason why I cannot be called padma Shri Bharat Jhurani, aka Padma Shrimati.

  • >MTV Marketing

    >MTV has managed to be the youth icon for a decade or so now. (Ah! it voted Orkut as the youth icon last year, though )

It has been showing some really creative products, and it reflects in each and every activity of theirs.

MTV managed to keep the buzz alive on its flagship hugely popular reality show – Roadies, even when the season was not running. Constantly showing repeat runs, involving the game participants in another reality show – Splitsvilla, and even launching the Roadies Cheatcode DVD set. This has managed to keep alive the same enthu all across, and also keep the cash registers ringing.

Also in adopting the latest youth fabs as the medium to reach out to them, MTV was always the front runner. It make use of Social Media marketing and is using the Orkut community MTV Roadies Battleground to create an Online Contest which is similar to the show’s TV version, making it completely interactive.

The roadies show is now ready to go more international after the last year’s stint at bangkok. Its Australia now. The posters for the city auditions are mind blowing if anything.

The campus programs also manage to mantain the same fun language. the recent event that it has launched in premier BSchools – A typical BPlan competition, but positioned it as ” DO SOME DIFFERENT SHIT”. The whole tone of the competition is quite informal, quite appealing to its target segment – Youth. Right way to attrat the young managers to join Vizacom18.

Also, the latest series to hit its screens – “FULLY FALTOO FILM FESTIVAL”. The ads presented here are filled with humour. The poster itself would create the curiosity to watch the show atleast once.

Admimst all this, hoow can it miss out India’s OSCAR entry.

    >Nice ad.

Large sites have complete marketing departments to sell their website. Here i am talking about the marketing of the site itself and not its product. For example, no doubt Yahoo is great, it is doing nice, but yes it needs to rope in new consumers to increase its hit rate and its number of registered users. how does it do that? Marketing. yahoo has complete bilboards in major cities, has radio jingles, Tv ads, etc.. all cajoling the consumer to get online and use Yahoo.

Not all sites can afford that. So what do they do? Advertise on the web itself, pulling people towards it. This is like a TV channel placing its ads on its own channel. how can such a concept work? it will, on the web medium. it does atleast as far as building a recall is concerned.

The ad above is of such a site. It uses clever funny flash animation which sticks in the minds of consumers for long.

One obvious advantage with such a media is – LOW COST, or rather no cost, except for opportunity cost probably.

    Great going!
